Jesus Opens Eyes of a Man Born Blind – Buoninsegna

This artwork by Duccio di Buoninsegna, entitled Jesus Opens the Eyes of the Man Born Blind, originally served as one of the panels for the artist's Maesta altarpiece in the Siena Duomo. The panel simultaneously shows the blind man and the same man after his cure. On the left side of the image, Jesus, standing in front of His apostles, places His finger on the blind man's right eye. On the right side of the image, directly beside his former blind self, the man with restored sight throws his walking stick to the ground and raises his eyes and his right hand to Heaven in thanksgiving and praise.
