This artwork by Peter Paul Rubens shows Saint Athanasius, the great third-century bishop of Alexandria, who tirelessly combated the heresy of Arianism, which denies the divinity of Jesus Christ. Athanasius is fittingly depicted here as crushing the heretic Arius with his crozier.
