The Prayer of St. Bruno

by Isabella Childs December 30, 2020

monk kneeling

In this painting of Saint Bruno by Le Sueur, the holy monk kneels in prayer before an altar.

St. Bruno is depicted as a young Carthusian with dark brown hair and a beard, wearing a light gray habit. Bruno kneels on the wooden platform, on which the small wooden altar stands. His arms are crossed and resting on the altar. His head is bowed. The altar is covered with a red cloth. A crucifix and two books are on the altar.

The saint appears to be in a simple stone church. Behind St. Bruno, a red curtain has been drawn back from an arch in the church to reveal the church’s open doorway. Just beyond the doorway are two men working outside.
