The Blue Madonna

by Isabella Childs January 08, 2021

Our Lady

This is the beautiful image of the Blue Madonna, by Italian Baroque painter, Carlo Dolci.

The artwork depicts the Virgin Mary’s face and veil.

The Madonna faces the right side of the image and looks downwards. She has pale skin. Her right eyelid is visible; the left side of her face is shrouded in shadow. The Blessed Mother wears a large, royal blue veil.
