The Resurrection, by Ferrari

by Isabella Childs January 04, 2021

Our Lord stepping from grave

This is a painting of Christ’s Resurrection, by Northern Italian Renaissance painter, Gaudenzio Ferrari

In the painting, the Risen Savior stands atop a red marble tomb, with His right foot resting on the upper edge of the tomb and His left foot just inside the tomb.

Jesus is depicted with white skin, dark eyes, and shoulder-length, golden-brown hair. Christ’s skin is unmarked, except for the red wound in His right side. A faint yellow halo surrounds His head. The Savior wears a large white cloak, which is wrapped around His back and His waist. He raises His right hand in the air and holds a white and red flag on a golden pole in His left hand.

A dark green forest, a blue mountain range, and a bright blue sky make up the background of the painting.
