This artwork shows the Miracle of the Crucified St. Wilgefortis, the brave virgin. According to the story of the Saint's life, Wilgefortis was crucified by her father for refusing to marry and praying God to make her repulsive to her suitor by a beard. As the woman hung, dying, a fiddler played for her beneath her cross. To reward the kind musician, the saint kicked off one of her golden shoes as a gift for him. Artwork by S. Lochner.
