Charity of St. Nicholas of Bari – Macchietti

The story shown is of the 4th-century saint, Nicholas of Myra. Under cover of darkness, Saint Nicholas throws three golden balls (representing money) through the window of a poor nobleman to help him supply dowries for his three daughters. The story gradually evolved into the Christmas tradition of Santa Claus. Artwork by G. Macchietti.
