The Annunciation – Drost

The Annunciation is a restored painting by Willem Drost, a gifted pupil of Rembrandt, made around 1646. The Virgin Mary turns from her open book, one hand raised to her heart, as she hears the angel Gabriel's greeting, painted in warm Rembrandt-school light against deep shadow.

A quiet devotional image for the feast of the Annunciation on March 25, Advent and Marian projects.
