In the ninth century, Saint Hubert's body was exhumed and found to be uncorrupted, in Saint Peter's at Liège. This convinced the Church of Hubert's sanctity. This image is a companion artwork to the Dream of Pope Sergius. Both paintings were formerly part of the same altarpiece, by R. Van der Weyden.
