Pope Pius IX


This is an antique portrait of the Roman Pontiff, Pius IX, who ruled from 1846-1878. The longest-reigning pope in Church History, Pius IX is best known for convening the First Vatican Council, declaring the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception, and publishing the Syllabus of Errors. Pope Pius IX was beatified in the year 2000.
