This is a depiction
by Domenichino of Saint Ignatius of Loyola's vision at La Storta of God the Father and Jesus Christ holding the Cross. St. Ignatius, as he attested, received the apparition while he was travelling to Rome with his followers to obtain permission from the Pope for his Order. In the vision, Our Lord Himself promised that He would bless St. Ignatius and the Saint's efforts in Rome. This promise of Jesus to St. Ignatius prompted the naming of the Society of Jesus.
