St. Basil


This is a seventeenth-century painting of St. Basil (Basil of Caesarea), who is also called St. Basil the Great. St. Basil was the Greek archbishop of Caesarea Mazaca in Cappadocia, Asia Minor, who fought heresy and did social reform. He is the patron saint of hospital administrators because of his work in building an exceptional hospital.
