St. Catherine of Alexandria – Solario


This is a portrait of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the early Christian ruler, scholar, and virgin, who was martyred by the Roman Emperor Maxentius. St. Catherine is pictured with the angel who tended her wounds in prison, the spiked wheel which broke when she touched it, the sword with which she was executed, and the palm of martyrdom. Artwork by Solario.
