St. Sebastian – Honthorst

This Roman officer had made so many notable converts that Diocletian sent him to the archers for execution. Left for dead, he was discovered and restored to health by St. Irene. Rebuking the emperor in public not long after his recovery, Saint Sebastian was ultimately martyred by being beaten with clubs. He is a patron of soldiers, athletes and the dying. By the 17th c.
